Animal Testing Essay
Animal Testing Essay Animal Testing Essay Animal testing has been going on for far too long. Whether it is to test a new cosmetic or develop another medication, scientists have used animals as a way of testing out new drugs and products before they are used on humans. Each year animals are blinded, force-fed, genetically altered, injured and more. They are kept in tiny, uncomfortable cages just to test something new. These innocent animals are hurt for science and the results might not even hold true for humans. While some may think that animals are not as developed as humans and use that argument to justify these experiments; Jeremy Bentham, a British philosopher, once said, ââ¬Å"The question is not, ââ¬ËCan they reason?ââ¬â¢ nor, ââ¬ËCan they talk?ââ¬â¢ but rather, ââ¬Ëcan they suffer?ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ Animals have been through too much suffering to sometimes benefit the lives of humans. Their deaths should not be considered acceptable simply because an occasional experiments has led to medical advancements. There are other options that we need to investigate. Testing on animals is unethical and should not be practiced under any circumstances. Some argue that animal testing has produced some benefits in the medical field. There have been numerous drugs proven though animal testing that have improved the lives of humans all over the world. From treatments for cancer to antibiotics for infection, without animal research, many of the medicines we use today would not exist. During animals testing, scientists are given a living laboratory in which to test their substance. For example, monkeys are often used in experiments because their bodies are so closely related to those of humans. Given that some believe we derived from monkeys, they are an obvious choice for testing. When monkeys are used to test a new pain medication, scientists observe the actions of the monkey before and after they have received the medication. Scientists cannot only see if the pain medication is working, but see if there are any side effects experienced by the monkey as well. From the responses, scientists are able to determine whether or not the medication would be suitable for a human being. By testing the medicine or product on an animal first, we ultimately save numerous human lives. This is not to say that animalââ¬â¢s lives are disregarded. Animal testing has certain rules to follow and regulations that protect the animal. The Animal Welfare Act became law in 1966 to regulate the treatment of animals in all conditions (ââ¬Å"Animal Welfare Actâ⬠). Several groups and professionals such as the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service enforce the act so that animals are protected during these experiments. Still, the benefits of animals testing do not outweigh the horrible tests being done on animals. The benefits of animal testing are often overstated and not well understood. PETA, a well-known organization for animal rights, corrects the misperception, ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s bad sc ience. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that 92 out of every 100 drugs that pass animal tests fail in humansâ⬠(PETA). These appalling tests being done on innocent animals are not even producing accurate conclusions. In 1993 the FDA approved a drug called Propulsid (Pippin, and Sullivan). It was used to treat gastric reflex in children. After numerous tests on different animals such as mice and rabbits with no problems, the drug was released to the public (Pippin, and Sullivan). By 1995 people started noticing heart rhythm disturbances associated with the new drug. Many children and babies under one year of age were dying of heart disruptions (Pippin, and Sullivan). After 300 deaths, the drug was withdrawn from the medical market in 2000 (Pippin, and Sullivan). Vioxx is another drug that passed animals testing but was found lethal to humans. Vioxx was discovered as a pain medication for arthritis. It was tested on African green monkeys, mice, and rats and there we re no problems found (Gartner). However, when introduced to humans, the drug was found to

5 Practical Space-Saving Resume Tips from The Essay Expert
5 Practical Space-Saving Resume Tips from The Essay Expert Conventional resume wisdom says to keep it to one or two pages, depending on the extent of your experience. Are you having trouble meeting these page requirements? If you have a few lines that you just cant fit onto that page, the following resume tips may help. Tip #1: Adjust Your Margins Are your margins set at 1 or 1.25? Try 0.5 top margin (above your header); 0.6 bottom margin; and 0.8 left and right margins. Tip #2: Reduce Your Font Size Try reducing your font size, even by 0.5pt. Acceptable font size depends on the font you are using. I recommend actually printing the resume to see how it looks on paper. Radical? Maybe. But worth it. Looking at a hard copy will ensure that you do NOT reduce the font size so much that it leaves your readers squinting! Tip #3: Streamline Your Header Your header does not have to take up 4 lines. Many resumes have a header that looks like this (and takes up way more space than necessary): Alternatively, consider something like: See how you have magically saved three lines that can be used for substantive information? Tip #4: Shrink the Space Between Your Sections You dont need to put an entire space between experience blurbs or sections of your resume. Instead, if you currently have full spaces between entries, try this: Delete the space that is currently there. Put your cursor at the beginning of the line. Go to the Paragraph menu. Insert a 6pt space before or after the line, as appropriate. If you insert a 6pt space before or after a line, it will almost always be a smaller space than the one you create by putting in a full line of space. How many extra lines can you squeeze from your resume with this trick? Tip #5: Use One Line for Your Employment Info Do you have your dates of employment running down the left-hand column of your resume? This format may be using up prime resume real estate! If your resume uses this format and you are having space issues, try this: Put the name of your employer all the way to the left margin of your resume. Put the location right after the name of the employer (preceded by a comma). Put your dates of employment all the way to the right by inserting a Right Tab at your location of choice (probably at 6.8 or so). To insert a Right Tab: Either double click on the ruler at the spot you want to insert the tab, or go to the Paragraph menu. Click on Tabs Insert the position in inches where you wish to insert the Right Tab Under ââ¬Å"Alignment, click ââ¬Å"Right. Hit OK or Apply If your text jumps off the page as a result of this maneuver, have no fear! It has not disappeared, it has just moved beyond your viewing area. Place your cursor where you know the text should be and start hitting the delete button. Eventually the text will come back onto the page and be nicely aligned at the right tab you created. If you are still having trouble fitting your resume onto the page, you may need more extensive organizational assistance to condense and prioritize your blurbs and bullets. There are many ways to pare down your language and still get your experience and skill across. Did these resume tips help you cut your resume down to size? Do you have any other space saving tips to share? For more resume tips, check out Brendas DIY resume writing books or à The Essay Experts resume writing services.

The government has concrete plans on turning the fortune of the country. In addition, foreign aid and investments have been pledged to boost the countryââ¬â¢s economy. Another issue that prevents Ivory Coast from improving is the lack of human capital development. The level of investment provided to improve cocoa farmers is low. Most of the groups that established communities in the country were tribes that broke away from powerful groups in West Africa. The lush forests have served as barrier preventing foreign tribes from coming in. Hence Ivory Coast has limited foreign influence and has limited awareness as to what is happening outside. During the 18th century, most communities were

Accounting 2010 Writing Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Accounting 2010 Writing - Assignment Example Then, I will evaluate the overall financial statements section and comment on the perception, readability, and usefulness. Lastly, I will explain what changes that I would make to improve the overall annual report for Exxon Mobil. Rex W. Tillerson, Chairman and CEO, provides the shareholder in a very eloquent manner the information of the successes which ExxonMobil has accomplished over the past year by showing the growth compared to the year before. Furthermore, in the letter to the shareholders he goes on to explain how they plan to move ahead in the next five years to further grow their assets and equity to keep ExxonMobil atop their industry and ahead of their major competitors. And at the end of his letter to the shareholders he gives a rather formal yet enthusiastic pep talk to try and gain more investments into the company. Overall, he does a wonderful and eloquent job of conveying his message to the shareholders. The use of graphs and charts within the 2011 Annual Report of ExxonMobil allows the company to represent the data they have collected over the past year. The data collected shows comparisons to the previous yearââ¬â¢s business, industry averages, or even show a possible forecast of what they may need to produce to keep up with the ever increasing demand for cleaner, better forms of energy. Some of the charts are even located upon various photo spreads throughout the annual report as a way of highlighting various aspects of their business that is showing what is transpiring throughout the company not only physically (though production numbers), but financially, as well, throughout the globe. Also, some of these same charts and graphs show how they trying protect some of the same areas, environmentally and economically, where ExxonMobil is currently located throughout the world. The impact of the charts and graphs, in my opinion, shows that even though ExxonMobil is trying to find ways to increase there financial position

Pediatric Nursing Essay
A pediatric nurse must offer the proper maintenance care to a child. Depending on the specific pediatrics office or environment that they work, most accurately define the roles that they are to assume. In pediatrics nursing, the nurse is responsible for the developmental screenings. Part of this aspect includes measuring the height, weight, and other preliminary measures that mark a childââ¬â¢s growth and development. Nurses in pediatrics are often responsible for collecting laboratory samples. A pediatric nurse will also perform further routine tests and screenings such as checking a childââ¬â¢s temperature, heart rate, blood pressure levels, and respiratory rates. He or she may be responsible for conducting the more basic eye exams, as well. A pediatric nurse is also in direct contact with the parents, so they are to offer the parents the support that they need. In pediatrics nursing, a pediatric nurse may be instructed to interpret laboratory results. Those nurses that work in acute care pediatrics may also conduct in depth physical assessments of any given child. There are several ways become a pediatric nurse. You can become a LPN, an RN, or obtain your Bachelorââ¬â¢s in Nursing. A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) takes approximately one year. Your scope of practice varies with the state that you live in. In my state, Indiana LPNs cannot start IVs, but can give medications, with the exception of a few specific medications. While the track to becoming an LPN is the shortest, your opportunities are also limited. For example a lot of hospitals are not hiring LPNs so they are limited to nursing homes. A Registered Nurse (RN) is the next type of nurse that you can become. Typically, this takes approximately two years to achieve. Nurses who go through a RN program receive either a nursing certificate or an associateââ¬â¢s degree in nursing (ADN or ASN). Registered nurses can work in many areas and have a wide range of privileges. RNs are the most flexible when it comes to areas in which you can work. Another option is to complete a four-year program in nursing which gives you a bachelorââ¬â¢s Degree in Nursing in addition to an RN license. More and more facilities prefer nurses with their BSN. To obtain your BSN you can either go to a four-year college or you can obtain your RN and then go to a bridge program and obtain your BSN. After obtaining the option of nursing you desire the next step is becoming a pediatric nurse. One of the easiest ways to become a pediatric nurse is to apply to work in a site that serves pediatric patients and receive your specialized training there where you work. The hospital where I hope to work offers a 3 month intern program for new nursing graduates that include both classrooms and clinical training specifically in pediatrics. Becoming a Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) once you have graduated, you can also take an exam to become a Certified Pediatric Nurse. There are also special classes that address Pediatrics. These include Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association, the Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course through the Emergency Nurses Association (see: www. ena. org), and Emergency Medical Services for Children.

Assisted Suicide Essay
If youââ¬â¢re suffering from excruciating pain and thereââ¬â¢s no hope you will recover and doctors are keeping you alive for as long as you can take for no reason, would you want them to ââ¬Å"pull the plugâ⬠? Assisted suicide is mostly legal in 16 countries. In the U.S. assisted suicide is legal in Washington, Oregon, Vermont and Montana does not specifically address physician-assisted suicide but have no laws against it and physicians who practice it are shielded from prosecution. Assisted suicide is a controversy because too many people itââ¬â¢s against their religion. Assisted suicide is considered to be inhumane to some people because some people say that animals are put down, not human beings. Also some believe that some people might take advantage of assisted suicide. Itââ¬â¢s a choice that some people might want to take if theyââ¬â¢re suffering. Most of the people that are against assisted suicide say itââ¬â¢s because itââ¬â¢s against their religio n. Others believe it is inhumane and say it violates a fundamental tenet of medicine by contradicting the doctorââ¬â¢s role as a healer to end a personââ¬â¢s life (murder) even if they are suffering. Assisted suicide should be legal everywhere because if you do not believe in it then you donââ¬â¢t have to choose that option, but people that believe in it should be able to choose. Many physicians believe assisted suicide should be legal and terminally ill patients should have the choice to end their suffering. If you have the right to live, shouldnââ¬â¢t you have the right to die? If you have the right to live, shouldnââ¬â¢t you have the right to die? ââ¬Å"When such people ask for assistance in exercising their right to die, their wishes should be respectedâ⬠This quote from Claire Andre (page 1) is stating that someone who is asking to end their suffering from a terminal illness/disease that their wish should be honored and respected. Claire is trying to prove that assisted suicide should be respected if one has the desires to end theirà life but only from a terminally illness/disease. She is stating that itââ¬â¢s actually inhumane to keep someone alive as long as possible through medical treatment. If the doctors know that a patient wonââ¬â¢t recover they should be able to ask the patient if they want the option of getting a high dose of medicine that will end their suffering. Most people who are against assisted suicide have no reason besides that itââ¬â¢s against their religion because itââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"technicallyâ⬠suicide. Others say that itââ¬â¢s inhumane and itââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"technicallyâ⬠murder because youââ¬â¢re taking someoneââ¬â¢s life. Also some people think that some people that are having family issues or people who are in debt might try to take advantage of assisted suicide. Dr. Ann McPherson, a 64-year-old GP from Oxford, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. After 14 years of being diagnosed she now has terminal pancreatic cancer and secondary cancer in her lungs. She is only taking her morphine and she does not receive cancer treatment anymore. ââ¬Å"Assisted dying is something I have considered. I have no idea if I want it, that depends on how my dying goes. But I want it to be there.â⬠ââ¬Å"I feel very strongly that palliative care should include assisted dying, I call it assisted dying, not assisted su icide, because suicide has connotations of something bad, running away. I think the law is inhuman as it stands and I think the à public is ahead of the lawmakers on this.â⬠(Page 1) she believes that making it illegal to have a physician end ones suffering is inhumane and should be reconsidered. Also no one would be able to take advantage of assisted suicide because there are protocols and you have to be terminally ill. To those who believe that assisted suicide ââ¬Å"technicallyâ⬠suicide and against their religion are wrong. How can it be inhumane if itââ¬â¢s their choice to end their own suffering? If God loved you he wouldnââ¬â¢t want you to suffer through terminally illnesses/ diseases he would want you to be able to end your suffering. Dr. Ann McPherson calls it assisted dying because she believes that suicide is just as excuse to end your problems or run away. Maybe some people are just against assisted suicide because of the name and havenââ¬â¢t looked into it. Maybe if they used the name ââ¬Å"Euthanasiaâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Assisted dyingâ⬠more often people might look at it different. Dr. Ann McPherson also has a husband, children, and grandchildren. She states that she wants her family to be there for her and she said ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t want to go toà Zurich, to some anonymous facility; I would want to do it in my own bed. I have a husband, three children and five grandchildren and I would like them to be there if that is the route I go down, though I donââ¬â¢t want them to be directly involved. A professional should be able to do that.â⬠(Page 2). She doesnââ¬â¢t want her family to take part in her death but if she was able to choose that path she would want her family to be there. Also if someone asked a physician to help them assist suicide and they were not terminally ill but they had life problems, they should and would be turned away. Assisted suicide is a way out of suffering from illness and diseases not life issues. There have been only 5 countries to fully legalize assisted suicide and only 3 states (soon to be 4) in the United States. The other 11 countries have no law against suicide/ assisted suicide. Assisted suicide is starting to appear in many court cases around the world and is starting to be considered worldwide. Some countries have no laws about assisting a suicide or suicide itself but do have laws like ââ¬Å"failure to assist a person in dangerâ⬠, ââ¬Å"an assisted with manslaughterâ⬠, ââ¬Å"accessory to murderâ⬠, and even ââ¬Å"murderâ⬠is brought up in cases that involves someone assisting someone in suicide. While Oregon, Washington State, Vermont and Montana permit physician-assisted suicide, Montanaââ¬â¢s Supreme Court determined that assisted suicide is a medical treatment. ââ¬Å"We find no indication in Montana laws that physician aid in dying provided to terminally ill, mentally competent adult patients is against public policyâ⬠and therefor e, the physician who assists is shielded from criminal liability by the patientââ¬â¢s consent.â⬠(Page 1) The Montana Supreme Court states that physicians may assist patients in ending their lives with a high dosage of legal drugs. ââ¬Å"The stateââ¬â¢s living-will law provides the basis for the practiceâ⬠said by the Montana Supreme Court (page 1). Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, and the United States (Washington, Oregon, Vermont, and Montana) have legalized assisted suicide. More countries are starting to move toward legalizing assisted suicide/ euthanasia. In 1997 Colombiaââ¬â¢s Supreme Court ruled that penalties/ criminal offenses for mercy killing should be removed. They havenââ¬â¢t legalized assisted suicide but are leading towards it. In the United Kingdom a man named Martin who is 46 years old suffered from a brainstem stroke. He is completely paralyzed everywhere except for his eyelids. He has a computer in which he stares at 24/7, that recognizes one letter at a time as Martin blinks and stares at it. He uses his eyes to spell out his desires, frustrations and anger on his computer. He wants to go to court for an assurance that any professional person/ physician who helps him to die/â⬠pull the plugâ⬠will not be prosecuted. The doctors said that he could live for years in his state and even his wife is trying to help him fight for the right to die. He describes his life as ââ¬Å"S-H-I-Tâ⬠and he just wants to die (page 1). The United Kingdomââ¬â¢s laws are suicide is not a crime but assisting a suicide is. Martin is fighting for his right to die and the United Kingdom is debating it. This shows that more and more countries are starting to consider legalizing assisted suicide and they are real izing that in some situations it should be allowed. Assisted suicide should be legalized, allowed, and accepted everywhere .More and more countries are legalizing assisted suicide every year. There should be a choice for someone who is terminally ill and suffering to end their life without anyone being prosecuted. If you donââ¬â¢t believe in assisted suicide then you donââ¬â¢t have to choose that option. A person who is suffering from a terminal illness/disease should have the right to die, no doubt. If you believe itââ¬â¢s inhumane to end ones suffering how is it not inhumane to keep someone who is suffering alive by a machine keeping them alive. If suicide is against your religion then you donââ¬â¢t have to choose assisted suicide, but would God really want you to suffer, no. Also if the name ââ¬Å"assisted suicideâ⬠is the reason youââ¬â¢re against it, call it euthanasia. If you believe that it violates a fundamental tenet of medicine by contradicting the doctorââ¬â¢s role as a healer to end a personââ¬â¢ s life (murder) even if they are suffering, you are most definitely wrong. Itââ¬â¢s inhumane to keep someone alive who is suffering and have asked you to end their suffering by using an overdose of medicine to make their passing painless and quick. If you have the right to live, shouldnââ¬â¢t you have the right to die? The answer is yes because why/how can it be a crime to commit suicide or assist suicide by a physician? How can you possibly be punished and also why should a Judge be able decide whether you live or not? Assisted suicideà should be legal and not have to have a Judge decide your life. Some people might say its ââ¬Å"technicallyâ⬠suicide and some people might say its ââ¬Å"technicallyâ⬠murder. How on earth is it either of those? First off you are just trying to end your suffering if you choose assisted suicide and a physician assisting a patientââ¬â¢s suicide/death isnââ¬â¢t (should not be considered) murder. The physician is just helping them ease away their suffering. All around the world countries are debating wh ether or not to legalize assisted suicide. More countries every year are legalizing it and already 4 states of the United States have approved it. In some countries if you assist a suicide you could be charged from ââ¬Å"failure to assist someone in dangerâ⬠to ââ¬Å"murderâ⬠. Most people who have been charged with assisting a suicide were let off. The charges were acquitted but not after fighting them in court. Learning more about assisted suicide and suicide in general would give more people more knowledge about assisted suicide and why it should be legalized. Most people were taught very young that killing yourself/someone is very bad so every time the topic about assisted suicide by physician comes up they say itââ¬â¢s wrong to kill yourself and itââ¬â¢s wrong to kill someone. They do not have the slightest clue that assisted suicide is helping suffering people and their families watch them suffer. It would bring peace to the person who is suffering and to their family to know that their suffering has ended. So shouldnââ¬â¢t we have the right to die, if we also have the right to live? If you are suffering from a terminally illness/disease or terrible accident where you can no longer eat, clean, use the bathroom, change clothes, and even adjust yourself wouldnââ¬â¢t you want the option of assisted suicide.

Logitech Introduction Essay Example
Logitech Introduction Essay Example Logitech Introduction Paper Logitech Introduction Paper With an annual turnover of $1 billion, Logistic has been able to establish Itself as the pioneer in products like mice, keyboards, low -cost video cameras etc. Logistic made its name as technological innovator in the highly competitive business of personal computer peripherals. Logistic is different from its competitors by continuing innovations. Furthermore, the company has also adopted the strategy of cost differentiation by configuring Its global value chain to lower production costs. Legally speaking, Logistic is a Swiss company. But to harmonize with the cost and other arms of advantages, It carries different actively In different part of the world. The corporate headquarters are in Fremont, California where companys global marketing, finance and logistics are carried out whereas designs of its products are done in Ireland. Majority of its products are manufactured in Asia. Specifically, China and Taiwan have been the most desirable places main reason being the availability of low labor cost In these countries. 1 . Choice of Taiwan as a major manufacturing site for Logistic and its explanation from Porters diamond The diamond model of Michael Porter for the Competitive Advantage of Nations offers a model that can help understand the competitive position of a nation in global competition. It explains the reason to why some areas or more generally, countries are good In particular Industry and what Is the mall reason behind such business being a success. It also tries to explain the specialization of a geographic area in some definite type of business thus gaining a competitive edge over its competitors. Various factors that may contribute for the competitive advantage maybe land, action, resources, labor etc. These factors are further examined and following factors are derived that can best explain the diamond model of Porter. L. Factor conditions Porter argues that key factors of production or specialized factors are created, not inherited. Specialized factors of production are skilled labor, capital and infrastructure. Because of availability of these factors in Taiwan in abundant, it is selected as a major manufacturing site of Logistic. As Porter has argued that advanced factors give companies competitive edge availability of these factors elementally in Taiwan has caused it be a rewarding destination. T. Related and supporting industry Porter argues that the presence of upstream or downstream industries facilitates the exchange of Information and promotes a continuous exchange of idea and innovation. Taiwan has a well developed supply base for the parts required to nutcracker ten mall advantageous products AT Logistic n. Nine available TTY AT raw materials or the upstream products re quired for manufacturing process of products of Logistic is fully supportive in Taiwan. This validates the argument of Porter and he production of Logistic products in Taiwan. Ii. Demand condition Porter forwards an assumption that, the more demanding the customers in an economy, the greater the pressure the firms face to constantly improve their competitiveness through innovative products, high quality etc. With growing computer and information technology in Taiwan along with in the whole world, the local demand of the products of Logistic in Taiwan has also been an influential factor in the choice of the place. This is also the reason why Logistic started its production in Taiwan. Lb. Firms strategy, Structure and Rivalry Logistic faced a high level of competition those days and at present at well. To gain the advantage over its competitors, Logistic has adopted the strategy of producing high volume and low cost products. This was only possible if they could grasp a production site which has abundant labor, raw materials and other resources and at the same time produce at very high volume. Taiwan probably was the best alternative Logistic could come up with so they shifted their production center to Taiwan. Fig: Porters diamond for Logistic selecting Taiwan as their production center. Theory of comparative advantage and Logistic Global operations According to Orchards theory of comparative advantage, it is advantageous for a country to produce good that it has specialized on. This gives overall advantage by creating trade and reducing the cost of production. The main motive behind Logistic configuring its global operations such that it manufactures in china and Taiwan, undertake basic R in California and Switzerland, design products in Ireland, and coordinate marketing and operations from California is because of the competitive advantage. It is comparatively advantageous to undertake those certain activities in certain places. This is why Logistic does so. Logistic and manufacturing activities in Taiwan and China High volume of production ensuring quality is required by Logistic to face the fierce competition from its competitors. This high volume of production would give economic advantage if the labor wage can be maintained low. China and Taiwan are best known for their high population and thus low labor cost. This drives Logistic to install a manufacturing plant there. For the same volume of work in America, Logistic old probably have to pay twice than what it really pays in china or Taiwan. Lectern Ana research Ana development (R) actively In clamatorial Ana saltcellars Well qualified labor is required for constant innovation of new ideas. This helps the firms gain a competitive edge. California and Switzerland have proximity to modern technologies and high technology enterprises. Furthermore, they have the availability of the highly qualified labor in abundance. This is the reason why Logistic has placed it R activities in California and Switzerland. Logistic and designing products in Ireland Ireland is known for its new and attractive designs. An attractive design can be a factor that creates an advantage. A design that is better than that of competitors obviously creates a differentiation of the product. It is for this reason that Logistic has to focus on design and for this purpose; Ireland seems to be the best alternative. Logistic and coordinating marketing and operations from California There are numerous companies in California which has gained competitive advantage by good marketing and operation management. California is close to many of the Americas gig technology enterprises. Less government intervention and support from government are also striking reasons for Lighters corporate office located in California. Additionally, the presence of skilled employees in these fields in California attracts Logistic to have a corporate headquarter in Fremont, California. Factor condition: Low production cost; qualified people Competition/Rivalry: Japanese firm Demand Condition: Need of increase in capacity Related and Supporting Industries Science based industrial park providing space at modest fee Chance Government

The eNotes Blog For Students The Keys to a Happy DormLife
For Students The Keys to a Happy DormLife Now that summer has drawn to a close and the school year has arrived, many of you will have left the nest for the first time and moved into that staple of college comedy: the dorm. As a recent college graduate and an employee of the front desk of a residence hall for nearly two years, Iââ¬â¢ve asked my coworkers what they would like to tell incoming freshmen about dorm life. If they could give you one piece of advice, this is what they would tell you: à Socializing Gosh, making new friends sure is swell à ââ¬Å"Force yourself to be social. This is the one time of year when everyone is trying to make friends, so this is the best time to meet as many people as possible. A lot of your friends can be found right on your floor.â⬠ââ¬âAnum K., Fourth Year The first few weeks of college will be a nebulous period in which everyone is feeling out of their depth. Everyone is overwhelmed, no matter how confident they seem, and the first thing people seek is a friend to help them figure things out. Use this as an exciting opportunity. You will never encounter another situation like this, where hundreds or thousands of people are looking for friends at the same time. Meeting masses of people may be intimidating, especially to you Socially Awkward Penguins out there, but it can be incredibly helpful. Some tips to help you do so: ââ¬Å"Invest in a fork.â⬠ââ¬âLixa C., Third Year This may seem really weird, but it is actually an incredibly useful piece of advice. In my dorm we pilfered forks from the dining hall and bent them in half to use as doorstops. This is especially useful when you live in a long hallway where everyone can see your door and vice versa. It lets people know that youââ¬â¢re open to socializing and encourages them to stop in and introduce themselves. You wonââ¬â¢t be the only one doing this, I promise. I got to know nearly every person on my freshman floor by doing this. Dear Diary, Betty moved Mr. Winkle again. That girl sure knows how to push my buttons ââ¬Å"If your roommate sucks, MOVE.â⬠ââ¬âAime A., Fourth Year There is a time limit on this one. A couple of weeks into the semester, there should be some sort of room-swap event where you can switch with another person. If you walk in and instantly know you and your roommate wonââ¬â¢t get along, donââ¬â¢t force yourself to suffer through an entire year of living with one another. It will eliminate the chance to find a friend and make your daily life stressful. My freshman roommate is my best friend, bar none. You are not doomed to have a crazy roommate. But act quickly; if you miss this event, it is unlikely you will be able to switch easily midway through the year. ââ¬Å"Use it as a time to get to know everyone while theyââ¬â¢re in one place.â⬠ââ¬âErika F., Graduate This isnââ¬â¢t like high school, where you only have a certain amount of time between classes during the day to get to know people. Living in a dorm means that there are people of your age group living five feet away from you. They go to class with you. They eat in the same places. They study in the same places. You could step out of your door at two in the morning and it is likely that there will be someone there. They might not be the ideal candidate, but you have ample time and opportunity to find people who are. à Studying Tut tut, these girls are up to no good playing cards in the study lounge à ââ¬Å"No studying is ever done in study lounges.â⬠ââ¬âVictor S., Fourth Year My floor study lounge freshman year was many things. It was the first door you encountered when entering the floor, and a natural meeting spot. It was a safe haven if you grew stir crazy in your room. It was the place where you could pass out after a Thursday night adventure in the frat houses. It was the place where the boisterous, ragtag group of freshmen from my floor stored their trophies from these nights out (including, but not limited to: a wheelchair, an upright piano, a white board, a chair from In-N-Out, the couch from the floor above us, and so on). It was not, by any stretch of the imagination, a place where you could study. Even if your floor isnââ¬â¢t something out of Animal House like mine was, you are bound to get distracted if you try to study in a lounge. There will always be someone popping their head in, or a group of people playing cards, or any number of things that can break your concentration in an instant. Find alternatives. The dorm we work in has private study rooms that can be rented out for a two-hour period. We also have a massive lecture room where the unspoken law is silence. Coffee shops have free WiFi and caffeine to keep you going. I am the rare breed of person who can actually study in my room without falling asleep, but I usually donââ¬â¢t recommend that method to others. If all else fails, thereââ¬â¢s always the library. Find out what works for you and stick to it. And if you really want to study in your lounge, I leave you with this advice: ââ¬Å"Buy ear plugs.â⬠ââ¬â Danay I., Fourth Year Thats more like it, boys Daily Life ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t smoke in the dorm. Because you will get written up. And you will die.â⬠ââ¬â Kyle B., Second Year College isnââ¬â¢t all about studying, nor is it about the massive amounts of partying youââ¬â¢ll see in college comedies. In between there are little moments of everyday life as you struggle to adjust to living on your own for the first time in your life. If youââ¬â¢re well prepared, itââ¬â¢ll be easier on you.à If not, here are some tips: ââ¬Å"Food. Food everywhere.â⬠ââ¬â Eddie A., Third Year Our dining halls were all-you-can-eat buffets, and were ranked among the best in the nation. They also come with the added bonus of a wide variety of food with little effort required to get it. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the cause of the infamous Freshman Fifteen. So maybe instead of helping yourself to that third basket of fries, go for the salad instead. And while pizza every day for a month might sound awesome, your scale doesnââ¬â¢t think so and neither will that cute girl who sits next to you in your Intro to Econ class. Easy on the jello shots, Mary Sue. Why not take a bite of Johnnys apple instead? ââ¬Å"Get used to having a roommate.â⬠ââ¬â Eric W., Fourth Year Cohabitation is not easy, no matter how well you get along with your roommate. Itââ¬â¢s hard to be conscious and considerate of another personââ¬â¢s needs while juggling your own obligations and stress. But remember the Golden Rule and donââ¬â¢t blast music while your roommate is trying to study or sleep, and donââ¬â¢t invite your significant other over and whisper late into the night when they have early class the next day. Yes, it is your room and technically you can do what you want, but itââ¬â¢s their room as well and making their life difficult might have repercussions in the form of spiders in your bed. Just saying, they know where you sleep. I always knew you were a neat guy, Tom, but this place is spotless. Gee whiz! à ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t bother buying new clothes. Youââ¬â¢ll look like crap in class anyway and so will everyone else.â⬠ââ¬â Danay I., Fourth Year You might try to look good for the first few weeks of class. But all it takes is one day of sleeping through your alarm and sprinting to class in your Donald Duck PJs for you to stumble upon that magical realization: Nobody Cares. Seriously. As long as the important bits are covered, you could walk into class looking like a complete lunatic and no one will bat an eye. My freshman year, I had a class in a meeting room located in my own building. I used to wake up five minutes before class, toss my hair up in a hair tie, and stroll into class with thirty seconds to spare without changing out of my pajamas. I didnââ¬â¢t even put on shoes. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, so hang on to those ratty high school sweatpants until at least a couple of weeks in. That saidâ⬠¦ ââ¬Å"Do laundry more than once a semester.â⬠ââ¬â Logan L., Second Year Laundry can be a pain. Itââ¬â¢s time consuming, tedious, and the nearest laundry room might be on the other side of the building. When you get there you might find that every single washer is occupied and youââ¬â¢ll have to wait even longer to snag the next one. At my college quarters are worth their weight in gold, and usually anyone who asks for them at our desk past noon on a Saturday is out of luck as we donââ¬â¢t get a change order on the weekends. With that said, you are a grownup. People might not care what you look like in class, but theyll expect you to practice basic hygiene. This goes for finals week as well. Youââ¬â¢d think I wouldnââ¬â¢t have to tell people that. Youââ¬â¢d be wrong. Make sure you and your clothes are clean (and no, spraying your unmentionables with Febreze wont cut it). The lovely ladies of the class of 51 sure know how to have some good, clean fun Parting Words Iââ¬â¢ll leave you with my own piece of advice. If I could tell incoming freshmen just one thing, it would be this: donââ¬â¢t limit your friendly interactions to other students. Make friends with the people who work in your building. The front desk staff. The housekeepers. The dining hall people. The RAs and other residential life staff. There is no downside to this. Youââ¬â¢ll be more knowledgeable about your building. You might get a favor every now and then. And youââ¬â¢ll make their day better by seeing them as something more than some drone there to service you. A lot of the time working in a dorm can seem like a thankless task, and when someone tells us to have a nice day or gives us a genuine ââ¬Å"thank youâ⬠it can make all the difference. I have met so many wonderful people who work in the dorms, and it doesnââ¬â¢t matter whether that relationship manifests itself in free swipes for food or just a smile as I walk down the hall. Become a part of your com munity. Donââ¬â¢t neglect someone just because they play a different role in the dorm life than you. As with many aspects of college, youââ¬â¢ll get out what you put into your dorm experience. I had the time of my life while living in the dorms, but I didnââ¬â¢t do that by staying cooped up in my room bent over my textbooks every spare minute of the day, nor by neglecting my schoolwork until I was too stressed to enjoy myself. Itââ¬â¢s all about striking a balance. Thanks so much to my coworkers for offering their advice. They are a huge part of what has made my dorm experience so awesome. #sproullifeforlife! Gabby H. Technical Term Paper (Part B) - Assignment Example Wide-IP intends to develop a number of router configuration changes that would enable data center routers to be easily transferred ,one at a time and dismantling the old lines after the installed new data center are proven. This is essential in providing an uninterrupted user support during the transfer and reducing the ongoing operational risk. Fiction Corporation, a retail chain needs to move a new headquarter several miles away. Considering the distance and the chain operations, the main challenge is moving all the personell to the new headquarters and ensuring that the data center supports all the retail sales and warehouse operations. Whereas the warehouse functions from Monday to Saturday, allowing one day to transfer an AS/400 and develop new SNA links, most of the stores will be open for 24 hours, which will be significant in ensuring non interruption transfer of the network system. Basing on the viewpoint of data processing, the migration of network system will include as AS/400,a large UPS, NT PC and Novell servers, and multiple RS/6000 AIX application servers. The network will be made up of about 75 stores that are connected through frame relay that has ISDN backup to three routers located in data center. The three routers will run a common LAN that will be shared by the headquesrter staff, the warehouse and the data center. An important point to consider is there will be a possibility of everything being shut down on the Friday evening during the week of data network system transfer.During this time, fiction corporation will run backups on every server, dismantle all headquarter employee systems and data center, and reconfiguration of immovable warehouse systems. The major business goals are to reduce operational inefficiency, minimize operational cost, and improve employees productivity. Minimizing operation cost, which is measured in terms of cost per computer per year, will be achieved by

Integrated marketing communication Literature review
Integrated marketing communication - Literature review Example An advertising message that highlights the unique capability of the Fiat 500 to upgrade to an electric car delivered on billboards outside of retail stores, on buses and outside of underground stations will present heightened consumer interest cheaply to enhance the effectiveness of the marketing communications mix. Moreover, communication of marketing information can be enhanced through the website for Fiat 500 through which more information can be delivered to the customers in the most convenient and interactive manner. Marketing communication is essential in the promotion of a product and integrating the promotional messages and images in all promotional tools provides the most effective way of creating an impact within the market. Every individual, business, company or organisation has a need to communicate, but it is important to remember that competitiveness and communication are highly correlated in the real world because without effective communication, it is impossible to convince others to buy (Pattuglia, 2011, Pp. 5 ââ¬â 10) and (Percy, 2008, Pp. 5 ââ¬â 10). This paper is a report on integrated marketing communication of Fiat 500 to the market which includes a situational analysis of the automobile, the objectives of the marketing campaign, tactics, actions taken, control and a marketing idea. According to the Automotive Design and Production (2011, p. 43), the performance of Fiat 500 has fallen below expectations and the target goals.
